“Cardiac Rhythm Academy”

“Cardiac Rhythm Academy” is an initiative started by three electrophysiologists Prof. Jayaprakash Shenthar, Dr. Maneesh K Rai and Dr. Praveen Sreekumar. The aim of the academy is educating, training, and creating awareness among doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and physician about arrhythmias, and heart failure. The Academy also includes a group of dedicated electrophysiologists who specialize in the management of cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure disorders.

The normal heart is a four chambered pump beats regularly and rhythmically at 60 to 100 times a minute. Abnormalities of the heart rate and rhythm may include a slow rate of < 40 beats, rapid rates > 100 beats, irregularity of rhythm at fast or slow rates and are called collectively as heart rhythm disorders or “arrhythmias”. Heart rhythm disorders may appear at any time from fetus to old age and can result in increased morbidity to mortality. Arrhythmias can cause a variety of symptoms like palpitations, chest discomfort, breathlessness, giddiness, loss of consciousness, tiredness, fatigue or occasionally may be entirely asymptomatic. Arrhythmias may be responsible for stroke, precipitate heart failure or angina (chest pain) or even sudden death.
